Since leaving the mines in 2010, I’ve been doing my best to help people on both sides of the jobs vs. environment debate find common ground. I know that the more people begin to understand the complexities surrounding this debate and the more people begin to communicate across their differences, the better chance we all have in achieving a healthier, happier future for generations to come. This belief—and ridiculous amounts of hope—are what keep me going day after day, year after year. But hope alone isn’t enough to sustain these efforts.
